A genuinely general pattern, that is seen used on multiple places on the web.
A pattern must be an extraction and abstraction of general practice and be useful for other designers trying to solve similar problems.
You might want to look at the existing patterns to see what format to follow. Please fill out all text fields.
However, for each section, a number of guidelines can be listed:
Keep it short and to the point. What common design problem does the pattern solve? Please refrain from using HTML or textile formatting here.
Make a list of use scenarios and anti use scenarios. As in "Use when you want to...", "Use when your website has a large user-base" or "Do not use when..."
Here you explain how the pattern works, what design issues are being touched, what design-components the pattern utilizes and how they are put together.
In the rationale, you explain how the solution described solves the problem. What is the intended effect of the solution, and how will it help overcome the problem
The discussion is for everything relevant to the pattern that did not fit into any of the other fields. What are common pitfalls to look out for, what are common misuses or misunderstandings regarding your pattern, and your general analysis.
Please also list and link to the sources you have used to write your pattern (if any)
Your pattern needs example images to be added to our index, as well as go through an editing process.
To submit your example real-life screenshots, please send your images to info_at_ui-patterns_dot_com.
We're looking forward to reading your contribution!
