Stefan Sagmeister

Stefan Sagmeister is a graphic designer known for eye-catching album covers, posters and a book of life lessons. In 1993 he formed Sagmeister Inc. to design branding, graphics and packaging for clients including the Rolling Stones, HBO, the Guggenheim Museum and Time Warner. He is the author of the design monograph Made You Look, has collaborated with the AIGA and with musicians David Byrne and Lou Reed, and won the Communications Award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in 2005. His motto: “Design that needed guts from the creator and still carries the ghost of these guts in the final execution.”

In his talk Design and Happiness, Sagmeister explores how to achieve happiness as a designer, the tactics he uses to keep his work a calling rather than letting it deteriorate into a job, and the chances designers have to create pieces that induce happiness in their audience.
