Card Sorting
Card sorting is a user research method for designing information architecture. Participants sort cards, each labelled with a piece of content or a feature, into groups that make sense to them, and sometimes name the groups. The results show how people expect information to be organised, which helps teams design navigation and categories that match users’ mental models.
The talk here is Design Games by Donna Spencer, recorded at UX Lisbon in 2014, which looks at games as tools in the design process. Categorization in the UI-Patterns.com library is closely related to what card sorting helps teams work out.
