Kids

Designing for kids means building interfaces for users whose reading skills, motor control, attention and expectations differ from those of adults, and differ a lot between age groups. Children often explore by trial and error, respond strongly to clear feedback, and can be put off quickly by text-heavy screens or controls that are hard to hit.

That makes the topic a useful test of basic UX practice: research with the actual audience matters more than assumptions, and conventions that adults take for granted may not hold. Parents, teachers and other gatekeepers are often a second audience the design has to satisfy as well.

The talk collected here is “Designing web interfaces for kids” by Trine Falbe from 2015. It is tagged with interface design, user research, user experience, CSS and JavaScript, covering both the design and the front-end side of building for young users.
