Client Management
Client management is the part of design work that happens around the design itself: understanding what clients need, setting expectations, presenting work, handling feedback and keeping a project on track. For agencies and freelancers it often determines whether good design ever reaches users.
For UX and web designers, strong client relationships make it possible to do the right work rather than simply the requested work. Involving clients in the process, explaining design decisions and building trust all affect the final product as much as any design skill.
The four talks here, recorded between 2010 and 2014, address this side of the job. Paul Boag’s Client centric web design focuses directly on working with clients. Jesse James Garrett shares 15 Lessons From 15 Years In UX (Smashing Conference, 2014), and Andrew Clarke’s Counting stars: Creativity over predictability (beyond tellerrand, 2014) argues for creativity over predictability. Stephen Anderson’s Role-Playing the Interaction (Webdagene, 2010) completes the set.
