Jake Archibald

Jake Archibald is a web developer known for his work on web standards, browser performance and offline-capable web apps. He spent many years at Google as a developer advocate on the Chrome team, where he co-hosted the HTTP 203 series with Paul Lewis and worked on the image compression app Squoosh. Before Google he worked at Lanyrd and at the BBC. He later left Google and joined Mozilla to work on web standards and developer relations.

In these talks from 2015, Jake Archibald covers modern progressive enhancement (beyond tellerrand) and the user experience of offline-first web apps (Smashing Conference). Progressive enhancement builds a working core experience first and adds richer features where the browser supports them, while offline-first design treats a missing network connection as a normal state rather than an error. Both talks will interest front-end developers and designers who care about resilient web experiences.
