Sebastian Deterding
Sebastian Deterding is a researcher and designer working on persuasive, playful and gameful design, or gamification, for human flourishing. He has pursued a PhD on the motivational psychology of gamified applications at Hamburg University. He is interested in how code shapes conduct: how software and games pervade everyday life and what that means for individuals, communities, ethics and design. He speaks and publishes internationally on gamification, social games and the social contexts of video games, at events such as the Gamification Summit, Gamescom, reboot, Playful and DiGRA, and his work has been covered by The Guardian, the LA Times, New Scientist, EDGE and Fast Company’s Co.Design.
In these talks, Sebastian Deterding looks at playful design done well. Meaningful Play: Getting Gamification Right (Google Tech Talk, 2011) examines what makes gamification work, and Hacking Shyness – Designing Social Interaction explores designing for social interaction.
