Topic

E-learning

E-learning covers learning that happens through digital products, from online courses to educational games. Games are an appealing model for learning because they combine clear goals, feedback and a challenge that grows with the player’s skill.

Applying game elements to learning isn’t automatically effective, though. Adding points and badges to a dull task rarely makes it meaningful, which is why the question of how to use game design well comes up often in this area.

The one talk in this topic is “Meaningful Play: Getting Gamification Right” by Sebastian Deterding, given as a Google Tech Talk in 2011 and also listed under gamification and video games.
