Playful Machine Learning

Conference talk at UX Riga

Andreas Refsgaard is an artist and creative coder based in Copenhagen who works between art and interaction design. In this talk at UX Riga in 2019, he explains how machine learning became an integrated part of his personal practice and of his curriculum for teaching designers and artists about digital interactions.

He discusses four aspects of making unconventional connections: inputs and outputs, his playful approach to machine learning, how to train an algorithm without loads of data and expensive computers, and how to get started with machine learning yourself.

The talk is a practical introduction for designers who want to experiment with algorithms and machine learning as creative material rather than leave them to engineers.
