Decision making
Decision making is the process of choosing between options. People rarely decide in a purely rational way: they rely on mental shortcuts, are influenced by how choices are presented, and can be swayed by the data they have, or lack.
For product teams, decision making matters twice over: in how users make choices within an interface, and in how teams decide what to build.
The talk here is Tricia Wang’s TED talk The human insights missing from big data (2017), which argues that relying on big data alone can lead organisations to miss important human insights when making decisions. See also the behavioral economics topic for more talks on how people choose.
