Creating Dashboards & Data Visualisations that Resonate
Conference talk at beyond tellerrand
The world is drowning in data, and it always has been. Until recently, making sense of it and deriving meaningful insights was left to professional statisticians. Now infographics and data visualisations are everywhere, and they don’t always make sense. In this talk from beyond tellerrand 2012, Des Traynor, co-founder of Intercom, notes that many horrible acts have been committed in the name of making a chart seem a bit more fun.
Getting the right data, and then getting the data right, is a significant design challenge that touches on more domains than a UX designer will initially know. The session is aimed at anyone who works with large data sets to answer questions about their company or application, anyone summarising large amounts of data, or anyone who has simply been told to “design the new dashboard”.
