Content in a Zombie Apocalypse

Conference talk at beyond tellerrand

A zombie apocalypse is upon us: an onslaught of new mobile devices, platforms and screen sizes, with more arriving every day. In this talk from beyond tellerrand 2014, Karen McGrane, author of Content Strategy for Mobile, argues that we are outmatched. There aren’t enough designers and developers to battle every platform, or enough editors and writers to populate every screen size.

Defeating the zombies requires flexibility and stamina in our content. We have to separate content from its form so it can adapt to different contexts and constraints, change production workflows so we are not just shovelling content from one output to another, and improve content management tools and interfaces so they are ready for the future. Karen explains how to survive by developing a content strategy that treats all platforms as equally important.
