The Space Between
Conference talk at beyond tellerrand
The intermediate states of websites have historically been neglected. In this talk from beyond tellerrand 2014, Tim Kadlec, author of Implementing Responsive Design, points out that transitions between starting and ending points are often treated as an afterthought, fixed only reluctantly because they stick out like a sore thumb.
As the web matures and designers’ roles shift, Kadlec argues that careful choreography can make these intermediate states feel intentional. Done well, they don’t break the user’s state of flow but help maintain it. The result is a more delightful experience from start to finish and at every step along the way.
