Nir Eyal

Nir Eyal is an author, lecturer and investor who writes about the intersection of psychology, technology and business. After co-founding and selling two tech companies, he taught as a lecturer in marketing at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and at Stanford’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design. He is the author of Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products (2014), which introduced his Hook Model, and Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life (2019).

In How to Build Habit-Forming Products, Nir Eyal looks at why some products become part of people’s daily routines and how product teams can design for that. In Indistractable, from Mind the Product San Francisco 2018, he turns to the other side: why we struggle to focus and who is to blame for distraction. The topic connects to well-studied ideas in behavior design, such as the role of triggers and rewards in forming habits, which also appear as patterns in the UI-Patterns.com library.
