Design Practices

Design practices are the everyday methods teams use to do design work: workshops, sketching sessions, critiques, brainstorming and other ways of thinking and deciding together. They are less about any single deliverable and more about how a group arrives at good ideas.

Good practices matter because design increasingly happens in groups that include people who aren’t designers. Methods that invite participation help teams share understanding, surface better ideas and commit to what they decide.

Two talks sit in this topic. Dave Gray presents design practices for co-creation and engagement at UX Week in 2010, linked to facilitating, gamestorming and brainstorming. Paul Adams’ “The End of Navel Gazing” was recorded at UX London in 2018 and connects to cross-functional teams and design thinking.
