Design Thinking
Design thinking is an approach to problem solving that borrows the way designers work: understanding people through empathy, framing the problem, generating many ideas, prototyping and testing. It is often described in stages, though in practice teams move back and forth between them.
The approach matters because it puts users at the centre of decisions and encourages teams to test ideas cheaply before committing to them. It has also spread well beyond design departments, into product management, services and education.
The five talks here date from 2010 to 2014. Jon Kolko explains how to use empathy to create products people love (Midwest UX, 2014). Marc Stickdorn covers service design thinking, and Jeff Gothelf looks at better product definition with Lean UX and design thinking. A Google I/O 2014 session describes the design sprint, from Google Ventures to Google, and Dave Gray presents design practices for co-creation and engagement (UX Week, 2010).
