Innovation
Innovation is the work of turning new ideas into products, services or ways of working that create real value. It is more than invention: an idea counts as innovation only when people adopt it, which means it has to be useful, usable and viable for the organisation behind it.
For designers and product teams, innovation raises practical questions. How do you make room for bold ideas alongside incremental improvements? How do teams with different backgrounds combine their perspectives? How do leaders inspire people to take risks? These questions connect design with leadership and strategy.
The five talks here span 2010 to 2016. Simon Sinek explains how great leaders inspire action at TED in 2010. Ken Norton argues for “10x not 10%” in product management at Mind the Product in 2015, and Julie Zhuo talks about building with creative confidence at The Next Web Conference in 2016. Frans Johansson gives “Collaborate Innovation”, and Genevieve Bell talks about the secret life of big data.
