Lean Startup
Lean Startup is a method for building products under uncertainty, popularised by Eric Ries. Its core loop is build, measure, learn: turn an idea into the smallest thing that can be tested (a minimum viable product), measure how people respond and use what you learn to decide whether to continue or change direction.
For designers, Lean Startup shifts attention from finished deliverables to evidence. Prototypes become experiments, research becomes continuous and a design is judged by whether it changes behaviour, not just by how it looks. The ideas also fed directly into Lean UX.
The seven talks here run from 2010 to 2018. Eric Ries gives a talk titled “The Lean Startup”. Gustaf Alströmer talks about growth and referral at Airbnb (The Family, 2015) and how to get users and grow (Startup School, 2018). Anders Toxboe argues to experiment to innovate (GOTO, 2019), Julie Zhuo talks about building with creative confidence (The Next Web Conference, 2016) and Steph Troeth shows how to cheat your way with UX (beyond tellerrand, 2011). R.A. Mashelkar covers breakthrough designs for ultra-low-cost products at TED in 2010.
