Delight and innovation
Conference talk at UX Lausanne
· 51 min
Giles Colborne, author of the book Simple and Usable, gave this talk at UX Lausanne in 2014. Delight and innovation are powerful words: a design that is delightful or innovative stands apart, and people see it as different, special and unique.
For ten years, Colborne has been collecting stories of what delights people. What he found is that what people experience as delightful or innovative is rarely what designers or their clients expect.
The talk sets out to reset what you think of as delight and gives practical tips for creating delightful, innovative designs. The UI-Patterns.com library covers the related pattern of delighters.
