Experimentation
Experimentation in product design means treating ideas as assumptions to be tested rather than decisions to be defended. A team states what it believes, designs a small test such as a prototype, a landing page or an A/B test, and uses the result to decide what to do next.
This matters because many product ideas don’t work as expected. Running small experiments early lets a team find that out cheaply, before it has spent months building. It also changes the conversation in a team from opinions to evidence.
Two talks sit in this topic. Anders Toxboe’s “Experiment to innovate” was recorded at GOTO in 2019, and Jeff Gothelf shares almost everything he learned from five years of Lean UX at UX Poland in 2016. Both connect experimentation to Lean UX, Lean Startup and product management.
