Ideas are cheap. Execution is everything.
Conference talk at IxDA Events
· 26 min
Christina Wodtke, co-founder and past president of the Information Architecture Institute and founder of Boxes and Arrows, gave this talk, subtitled The Executioner’s Tale, at an IxDA event in 2014. She has spent her career taking on seemingly impossible tasks: at Yahoo, competing with Google at search; at LinkedIn, getting people to participate daily on a site about résumés; at MySpace, reinventing the profile; at Zynga, building a social network for play.
Some of those efforts succeeded and some did not, but all had one thing in common: large groups of people working toward a single goal. Lean can tell you what to build and Agile tells you how to build it, but neither tells you how to build it as a team.
Wodtke addresses the questions that fill that gap: how to build consensus, how to inspire outlandish dreams, and how to create accountability in teams.
What you'll learn
- Lessons from taking on hard problems at Yahoo, LinkedIn, MySpace and Zynga
- Lean tells you what to build and Agile how, but not how as a team
- How to build consensus, inspire big dreams and create accountability
