Great Design for Great Digital Products
Conference talk at Mind the Product
· 32 min
Rather than relying on a single genius designer who drives their own solutions to problems, quality design brings different perspectives together. In this talk from Mind the Product London 2017, Jane Austin, then Director of Design and UX at Moo, explains how to make that work.
The key is to build a deep, shared understanding of the problem across the team. Once you get to that point, you can operate through consent rather than consensus, which means decisions can be made quickly and transparently. Austin walks through how she does this at Moo.
Along the way she chides the audience for using mothers as a unit of internet stupidity, as in “even my mother can use this”. The talk is a good fit for product managers and design leads who want design to be a shared team practice rather than a hand-off.
