Design Teams
A design team is the group of people responsible for the design of a product, from researchers and interaction designers to visual designers and design managers. How a team is structured, hired, led and connected to the rest of the organisation has a large effect on the work it produces.
Good design rarely comes from talented individuals alone. Teams need a culture where people can critique each other’s work, disagree productively and learn from mistakes, and they need working relationships with engineering and product management. As companies grow, these questions become harder and more important.
The eight talks here date from 2013 to 2016. Aaron Walter talks about building great design teams and Jeff Veen about crafting a creative culture, both at beyond tellerrand in 2015. At Mind the Product, Laura Klein covers building happy product teams, Peter Merholz argues that the experience is the product and Rochelle King talks about managing conflict. Jeff Gothelf covers building successful teams with evidence-based innovation and design, Nishant Kothary speaks on “The Design of People” (From The Front, 2013) and Jeff Veen also gives “Design for Disaster”.
