Mobile First
Conference talk at An Event Apart
· 62 min
More often than not, the mobile experience for a website or web application is designed and built after the PC version is complete. In this talk at An Event Apart in 2012, Luke Wroblewski, co-founder of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA), argues for reversing that order.
He gives three reasons web applications should be designed for mobile first: mobile is exploding, mobile forces you to focus, and mobile extends your capabilities.
The talk was the spark that gave rise to his best-selling book of the same name. The idea that small screens force you to focus on what matters connects to patterns such as progressive disclosure and reduction.
