'Understanding Understanding' in Design for Behaviour Change
Conference talk at Mind the Product
· 23 min
In this 2015 talk, Dr Dan Lockton, a researcher at the School of Design at the Royal College of Art who specialises in the links between design, understanding and human action, discusses the importance of “understanding understanding” in design for behaviour change.
He sets out how people make sense of the situations they experience, how the design of technologies, products, services and environments affects this, and how designers could do it better. Lockton draws on projects around home energy use, community groups’ use of technology, and public engagement with driverless cars to explore these questions.
